Is it just me or does it totally look like Classic!Holmes is texting at the window here?
I know this is about 100 years too early for a mobile phone so it more likely to be a small note book or snuff box but I could swear it looks like the gold rimmed phone of Irene Adler. #wishfulthinking

Theories on Sherlock’s return
My friend psychoticbanana said that she thinks that after the utterly heartbreaking ending of Reichenbach Falls, John should find out Sherlock is in fact still alive via a text message.
Can’t you just see it?
John sobbing in his chair back in their apartment (like Martin sobbed in Nativity!) or maybe he is just starting into nothingness feeling everything inside him and showing nothing outwardly but then, then his phone goes off, he robotically pulls it out of his pocket only to find it is a text from Sherlock and it asks one simple thing;
“Shall I pick up some milk on the way home?”
And then it can end on a cliffhanger like all the season finales inevitably will and we will sit there thinking;
IS SHERLOCK ALIVE?
IS IT A MOBILE NETWORK DELAY MESSING WITH JOHN’S HEART?
WILL HE ACTUALLY EVER BUY ANY MILK WHEN HE SAYS HE WILL?
And it can end on John staring at the phone in a mix of awe and growing rage.
